Chick-fil-A®-Healthy Fast Food…don’t buy the lie! // Rebecca Rogers / by McClain McKinney

A friend of mine started me thinking about the misconception that Chick-fil-A® is healthy when she started listing the ingredients. Now don’t get me wrong, I love Chick-fil-A® corporate philosophy and before our lifestyle change, I thought they were the healthy fast food option too. The last time I ate in the typical fast food restaurant was years ago and I can’t tell you how many of my friends believe this myth too. Before you go getting all upset about your grilled chicken sandwich or salad not being healthy, let’s consider some facts that are easily available on the company’s website.

First of all, just being gluten free is not the goal but being CHEMICAL free is. That’s right, there’s chemicals in your tasty, and perceived healthy, chicken sandwich.

Now the grilled chicken sandwiches in my kitchen would have the following ingredients: organic chicken, sea salt, whatever organic seasoning I happen to have on hand, olive oil mayo, organic spicy mustard, organic lettuce, tomatoes and maybe, a pickle on a non-chemical laden, MSG and gluten free bun, or on an organic lettuce wrap. If it were a fried chicken sandwich, it would be the same as above breaded with a gluten free flour and prepared in olive oil.

Wait, I can hear you saying “but I don’t get the fried chicken sandwich, I get the healthy grilled chicken sandwich! It’s gluten free and I can now get it on a gluten free bun.” Sure, you may be sans gluten but you’re loading up on chemicals and GMOs. I can’t state the ingredients in the gluten free bun are bad because I couldn’t locate the ingredients but based on the other items, I wouldn’t bank on a healthy gluten free bun.

Now let’s take a look at the Chick-fil-A® Chicken Sandwich ingredients and then see how appetizing and healthy that pouch of warm chicken goodness really is.
